A Message from Rev. Billly Tweedie

Dear Community,

With a heavy heart and weary soul, I am writing to share the news of our beloved Charla’s passing. She was surrounded by her family and closest friends in her final days. There are no words to describe the hole that is left in our hearts. Our prayers and love go to Tim, Nick and Wrendy and Radley, Ben, Anna Kate and Robert, and her closest friends and family.

The Rev. Dr. Charla has been a beacon of light to this chapel for a long time. She inspired us by her dynamic preaching, endless invitations to return to the fold of God’s love, and constant witness to the Holy Spirit at work in our lives. The Gospel of John, chapter 11, tells us that Charla’s journey continues with God. Further, her spirit continues to inspire us all to love.

Jesus said to Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die. Do you believe this?” “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe that you are the Messiah, the Son of God, who is to come into the world.” (John 11:25-27)

The news of her passing will undoubtedly weigh heavily on our entire community. I encourage you to lean on each other and take comfort by sharing your stories of God’s amazing grace in this place to which Charla devoted so much of her love and energy.

While we find ourselves in the midst of tremendous grief and loss, we also stand in profound gratitude for all the ways Charla invited us into her life of faith and shepherded us towards love for God and one another.

We will keep you up to date on services and opportunities to gather to celebrate Charla’s life and legacy. May we honor her memory by continuing the work she cared for so deeply with kindness, faith, and love.

Deepest sympathy and love to you all,

The Rev. Billy Tweedie

  1. Thank you Rev. Tweedie. I have been an online member of Snowmass Chapel for a while now, and Charla allowed me to join the Ladies ‘ zoom study group some time ago. Charla has been such an inspiration to me and I will miss her very much I live in Dorset in Southern England. God bless you.

  3. Thank you Billy, I’ve just reread your msg and it was comforting.  I will hasten to read John 11 now.  We were neighbors as you know,  so I think of her frequently when I look out my front window, checking the lights shining, wondering if Tim is home.  We were blessed to have her, to know her and love her. It is comforting to me to know she is

About Charla

In March of 2023 our dear Charla was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer which had spread to the lymph nodes. Charla is a beloved friend and pastor to so many. In an effort to keep all of those who care about her in the loop, and lighten the communication load that would inevitably fall on Charla and her family, we have established this blog. Please post your comments of positivity, prayer, encouragement, and inspiration on this site, or mail encouraging messages via snail mail.

Prior to this diagnosis Charla had tossed around the idea of starting a podcast. With a background in PR and TV, years of expertise teaching and writing on parenting and other topics, a Doctorate in Ministry from Duke University, and 13 years under her belt of co-pastoring and leading a church, Charla has a deep well of wisdom to draw from and “kick around” in conversation in a podcast setting. We can’t wait to “kick it” (slang for “hang out”) with Charla in the years ahead and hear her declare triumph over this diagnosis.

For now, we join Charla in solidarity, with love and constant prayer, as she kicks cancer out of her body.

Kick it with Charla. And lift her up in prayer.
