I haven’t offered a health update for awhile because I’ve been, you know, living. Which somehow miraculously happens even in the midst of whatever we’re enduring. Plus, spoiler alert – everyone is enduring something, and most of the time I’d rather talk about you than me.
But yesterday’s report was as good a one as I’ve had, and if I share here then we’re all on the same page. If you haven’t been tracking (and really, why would you; you’ve got enough going on), it’s been a year and a half fighting stage 4 ovarian cancer, including 9 rounds of chemo, major abdominal surgery, 6 weeks of daily radiation, a couple of ER visits, a whole lotta acupuncture, meditation and prayer, and a blissful break from treatment this past summer. But, like a student’s reading skills, at the end of the summer break there was some regression. Or rather, progression.
So I started a new targeted drug therapy that I call the chemo bomb because it goes directly to the tumors and drops its little chemo right into them. Turns out the chemo bomb is the bomb. My PET scan shows a really good response with all remaining cancer improving or gone and my tumor markers in the very low/normal range. Of course I wanted the elusive NED pronouncement (No Evidence of Disease), but the doctor actually used the phrase “great report” for the first time ever, so I guess I’ll take that for the win.
Cancer is a long-game. And I plan to be around for a long time. Here’s to all of our future “great reports”!

Just me livin’ life.
Blessed is the one whose delight is in the Lord. She is like a tree planted by streams of water, yielding its fruit in season, whose leaf does not wither, and who prospers in all she does. Psalm 1:1-3
